Originally the concept of an innovative mother in March 1996 to provide quality play provision for children in her town. Today the Borrower’s Toy Library provides a countywide service to children of all ages. The library is accessed by parents, grandparents, child care providers, nurseries, child minders, baby and toddler groups, home educators, fostercarer's and schools alike. A non-referral, open access service for children everywhere. The Toy Library is a positive experience for both child and adult. Children learn through play and we all want to be able to give children the best we can so what better way than to join the Borrower’s Toy Library and have a store cupboard full of play experiences to choose from. The Toy Library works just like a book library. Children of all abilities are able to choose toys to take home to play with and then bring them back and swap them for something new. With over 6000 pieces of equipment to choose from the Toy Library is every child’s dream and the loans are free to our members. Baby toys – garages, zoos, farms – dressing up and role play – construction toys – musical instruments – games and puzzles – computer software – sports equipment – ride-on bikes and trikes – large outdoor play equipment – themed resource boxes – educational resource. The various types of membership are: 6 months family – 12 months family – child minders – play groups and voluntary groups – after school clubs and summer play schemes – full day care – schools.
